Comparison Analysis of Ground Reaction Force Patterns According to the Stairs Heights and Bag Weights during Downward Stairs in Women

Abstract
INTRODUCTION: This purpose of this study was to analyze the Ground Reaction Force patterns according to the change of stairs heights & bag weights during downward stairs in women.

METHOD: Subjects were consisted of young and healthy women(n=9, mean age: 21.00¡¾0.00yrs, mean height: 164.00¡¾3.23cm, mean body mass: 55.04¡¾4.68kg, BMI: 20.48¡¾1.86kg/m2), and were divided into 3 bag weights(0kg, 1.5kg, 3kg) and downward stairs with 2 types of stairs heights(stairs, bus stairs). A one force-plate was used to collect GRF(AMTI OR6-7) data at a sampling rate of 1000Hz. The variables analyzed were consisted of the medial-lateral GRF, anterior-posterior GRF, vertical GRF and Center of Pressure(COPx, COPy) during downward stairs.

RESULT: 0kg load showed different patterns when compared with that of 1.5kg, 3kg of bag weights and height of stairs & bus stairs in medial-lateral GRF respectively. The anterior-posterior and vertical component of GRF didn't show significant difference statistically according to the bag weights, but those of bus stairs showed the higher anterior posterior and vertical component of GRF than that in case of stairs height during downward stairs. The COPx and COPy didn't show significant difference statistically according to both the bag weights and stairs heights respectively. Also, The 3kg load of bag weights showed more significant difference than that of 0kg, 1.5kg load of bag weights in both COPx and COPy during downward stairs. The vertical GRF showed similar correlation patterns with anterior-posterior GRF(r=.942, R2=88.64), with COPx(r=.823, R2=67.6%), with vertical GRF(r=.840, R2=70.49%), with COPx in stair(r=.928, R2=86.26%), with COPy in bus stairs(r=-.942, R2=88.64%) according to increase of stairs heights.

CONCLUSION: Considering the above, the capacity of dynamic balance was lowered relative to increase of bag weights at the COP displacement and different pathway. Also the degree of asymmetric load showed the higher level relative to increase of bag weights during bus downward stairs.
